Canberra Wine Week, 12- 18 July

Wines from the Canberra District have been getting rave reviews in the last 12 months, and picking up some pretty serious awards (eg Trophy for the Best Red Wine of the Show at the Sydney Royal Wine Show for the Collector Wines Reserve Shiraz 2008) .

It has really focussed attention on the wines we make, and the district winemakers would like to showcase some of these to Sydneysiders.

Since a number of wineries are attending the Sydney Good Food & Wine Show 2010 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 July, and we were going to be in Sydney for this, we thought we would spend a few days beforehand showing off our superb wines to Sydney-siders in a convivial atmosphere in a number of great restaurants, wine bars and other venues.

The week will consist of a number of whole-of-district events, some events where a group of wineries are doing a joint promotion. Take your pick! See the list of events here:

Canberra District Shiraz Dinner, Mumu Grill, Tuesday 13 July, 7pm

This dinner will feature the leading Shiraz wines from the Canberra District including from Lerida Estate, Clonakilla, Capital Wines and Collector Wines, matched with sensational lamb and beef dishes prepared by Craig, Brendan and the Mumu team. Mumu is one of the top steak restaurants in Sydney.

Canberra District Wines – Regional Wine Dinner, Fix St James, Wednesday 14th July, 6.30pm

Over 20 wineries showcase the region’s diversity with a dinner at one of Sydney’s most fashionable wine bars – Fix St James.

The dinner starts with a tasting of Canberra Shiraz served with Poacher’s Pantry smoked meats. This will be followed by a four course dinner which Sommelier Stuart Knox has matched to a further fourteen medal winning or highly acclaimed wines.

Lerida Estate & Shaw Vineyard Estate at Wine Odyssey, 12-18 July

Wine Odyssey was recently named the winner of the ‘Best NSW Wine List’ by the Restaurant & Catering Association of NSW. Capital Wines and Canberra Regional Produce Dinner at Danks Street Depot, Thursday 15th July

The Canberra region's cool climate and long ripening season lured Mark and Jennie Mooney away from their city lives just over 7 years ago to pursue their vineyard dream. They now run Capital Wines in collaboration with established wine maker Andrew McEwin.

The dinner will give you the opportunity to try some of what they have on offer alongside dishes inspired by their latest wines. 

Canberra Region truffles are featured on Chef Jared Ingersoll’s superb menu.
